06/08/11 - The Famous Musselburgh Pace Goes To Mahogany Jasper
The Alexis Laidler trained Mahogany Jasper landed the spoils in a truely memorable Famous Musselburgh Pace final. Trainer Laidler had two charges in the final with her husband Rocker opting to drive the odds on favourite Stoneriggs Mystery with Wull Greenhorn landing the catch drive on board Mahogany Jasper. Greenhorn sent Mahogany Japser to the front and was never headed with Astounding staying on for second and Stoneriggs Mystery finishing third. Congratulations to owner Harold Brennan on a fantastic win, Alexis Laidler and her team and to winning driver Wull Greenhorn.
Local trainer Eck Taylor produced a great training performance with Claire Fletchers Major League Star. The son of Art Major only had one third place finish in 5 starts this year however he landed a double yesterday at UK harness racings biggest fixture. He landed the Female Drivers race with complete ease with Kelly Peacock in the sulky. Three races later and he was back on the track to compete in the Invitational Free For All which included last years Musselburgh 4yr old winner and two previous Famous Musselburgh Pace winners. At odds of 20/1 and the rank outsider of the race driver Willie Drysdale got every ounce of effort from his charge to stick his neck out on the line in what was without doubt one of the most exciting races that any of the crowd will ever see. Congratulations to the connections Eck Taylor, Led Donaldson, Claire & Shane Fletcher and driver Willie Drysdale.
There were three other Scottish winners yesterday with Havenaparty, Whitestar Hanover and Stoneriggs Mystery landing heats of the Famous Musselburgh Pace. Whitestar Hanover and Stoneriggs Mystery are both owned by Davie Morton and Havenaprty is owned by Steven Gilvear.
A tremendous two days of racing and for those who couldnt be in attendance then speak with someone who was there and you will not want to miss it next year! |

04/08/11 - Rhyds Hasty Affair Lands The Hurricane
Todays Hurricane Pace at Musselburgh was won in impressive fashion by the Sheelagh Lord trained Rhyds Hasty Affair. The 4yr old daughter of Hasty Hall is owned and was bred by John & Grethe Wright of Rhyds stud fame. They owned the mother of Rhyds Hasty Affair who won The Famous Mussleburgh Pace in 2005 but unfortunately passed away leaving only one foal who is now following in her mothers footsteps. Mick Lord was the victorious pilot and together with his charge they followed up from their earlier heat win to land the spoils comfortably. Congratulations to the connections.
Two Scottish trained horses managed to land victorys this afternoon. Country Commander got the Scots off to a great start when coming out on top in a nail biting finish with Boogie Dale and Blue Bop A Loola. The horse is trained by SHRC Racing MAnager Willie Paterson, is owned by his wife Anne and was driven to victory by son Gregor. A true family affair and a well deserved winner. The other Scottish trained victor was Country Reiver. Country Reiver is owned by Harold Brennand of England and was driven to victory by Paul McGregor however he has been trained this year by Gavin Keith of Stirling so congratualtions go to him and the rest of the connections.
