17/05/2013 - Haughfield Results
The sun was shining in Stirling last night as the first Haughfield meeting of the 2013 season got underway. With rain all week leading up to the meeting, the going was on the soft side to say the least. Still the horses and drivers carried on regardless. In the first race Greentree Shorty won for driver Jonjo McMeekin by three lengths from Y-not Wait N C in a time of 2:24.6. Race two was all about Laneside Lucky (Rocker Laidler) who skipped clear of the field only to be gunned down in the strech by Country Maestro and Johnathon Hoss but it Proved to be "Lucky" enough for the Laidler Trainee hanging on to win by a neck from Maestro in 2:23.7. In race three it was the two Richard Thomson trained horses who made all the running, Final Fantasy (Richard thomson) led from the start with Evenwood Rollcall starting the challenge from the 1/2 mile pole, the two battled it out right down the stretch with Evenwood Rollcall getting up on the line for catch driver Grant Cullen in a time of 2:22.4. Race four was even luckier for Rocker Laidler, in-form Merrington Missile was on top from the 1/2 mile pole but was being tracked all the way home from Camden Masino but stayed on well in the home stretch to win by 4 lengths in 2.21.8. The fifth seen Afan Romeo (Rocker Laidler) leave well from the gate, Hawthorns Maggie (Gregor Menzies) Wasnt long in catching up from the 10y trail and almost taking up the lead just after the 1/2 mile pole but didnt quite clear and ran most of the race parked on the outside before Afan Romeo popped the plugs and managed to find a length on the field, there was a great battle in the strecth between Maggie, Stoneriggs Banner and Gd's Trick but it was team Laidler who was first past the post again in 2:23.1 with Gd's Trick ( J Nicholson) Getting up for second place. In the Last race All Daylon (H Menzies) caught the field napping and managed to skip a few lengths in front, Grinnin C T and Joleen were chasing all the way home but couldn't quite do enough to catch the winner All Daylon who won by 1& 1/2 lengths in 2:19.5.
