The performance of the day belonged to the Eck Taylor trained Major League Star. 27th August 2010 - The Scots Victorious In Wales
Scottish owned horses landed the spoils in two of todays major events at Tregaron. The Little Welsh Dragoness was won by the Gary Allan owned Duggans Phoenix. The event for three year old fillies attracts the best that the UK and Ireland have to offer and it was Gary Allans filly who came out on top. The daughter of Dragon Again is trained by Alexis Laidler and was driven to victory by Rocker Laidler. Congratulations to the connections.
The main event of the day was the Strata Florida handicap final with Scottish horse Wills Red going to post as favourite. Driver Rocker Laidler chose to drive the favourite and so leading Scottish pilot Wull Greenhorn picked up the drive on the other Scottish owned finalist Dun Laoghaire. As the field entered the stretch Wills Red battled with Dream Maker however Greenhorn pulled his charge wide and finished like an express train to land the spoils. Dun Laoghaire is owned by Aky and Leanne Drysdale who hail from Glenrothes, Fife. Congratulations to them and Wull Greenhorn on their victory.
Tomorrow is the final day of the festival and the Scottish owned Stoneriggs Mystery is the ante post favourite for the main event. The son of Village Jasper is owned by David Morton and we wish him and all the other Scottish runners the very best for tomorrow. |

Wellfield Oneway stalked Kas Best and with a 1/4 to go driver Wille Drysdale tipped his charge two wide and blew by the favourite. 15th August 2010 - Astouding And Pantihistamine Take The Honours At Haugh Field
Fantastic weather played its part in what was an excellent days racing at Haugh Field. The low grade final was won by the Steven Gilvear owned Astounding. The 3yr old son of Artiscape who had only had 1 lifetime start before today showed raw talent but also true grit and determination to land todays low grade final. A game winner of his heat defeating Blue Bop Aloola he went to post in the final as joint favourite along with the Alexis Laidler trained Wills Red. The 3yr old battled gamely to hold off a late challenge from Wills Red to make it 3 wins from 3 lifetime starts. The young gelding is trained by John Gilvear and was driven to victory by Gordon Gilvear
The CALA Homes Classic Final was won by the Gary Allan owned Pantihistamine. The speedy son of The Panderosa added another top grade final win to his list of tremendous achievements in 2010. He was a close 2nd in the low grade final at Aberystwyth, a heat winner at Musselburgh and the top grade final winner at Bells Field. He was a fairly comfortable winner of his heat which made him favourite for the resulting final. Trainer Alexis Laidler had two horses in the final however stable driver Rocker Laidler decided to stick with Pantihistamine and his decision paid off as his charge stayed on gamely to land the top prize by a short head ahead of stable mate Rattlesnake Annie. Rattlesnake Annie got a perfect second over trip however she was being stalked by Pantihistamine and Rocker Laidler. As Rattlesnake Annie kicked for home, Pantihistamine leveled up and looked to have a lot more left in the tank. As they hit the home straight, driver Wull Greenhorn managed to find more from Rattlesnake Annie as she went toe to toe with Pantihistamine all the way up the home straight. However with 50yds to go it was Pantihistamine who managed to get his head in front and hold on gamely to take the winners cheque of £1,500. The 4yr old has now won 8 of his 11 starts this year whilst earning £7,725 on the way. Congratulations to owner Gary Allan and his family and also the trainer driver combo of Alexis and Rocker Laidler.
All in all it was a fantastic days racing and congratulations to all the winners. |

12th August 2010 - Shock In 4yr Old Classic!
Ayr Escape landed tonights 4yr old SHRC Classic in dramatic circumstances at Corbiewood. Stoneriggs Mystery was sent to post as the 1/6 favourite with Ayr Escape a 16/1 outsider. Driver Rocker Laidler set his sights on the track record on board his Stoneriggs Mystery with opening splits of 29, 59 and hit the 3/4 pole in 1.29. He was some 10-15 lengths clear of the field and was the crowd began to realise that the track record was about to be broken. However as he hit the stable bend with an 1/8th of a mile to go disaster struck and Mystery went off stride. He struggled to regain his gait which left Ayr Escape with a clear road in front of him and driver Hugh O'Neil grasped the opportunity crossing the wire in 2.2.6. A fantastic performance from Ayr Escape which will unfortunately be overshadowed by the mishap of Stoneriggs Mystery. Credit to trainer Ryan O'Neil and his brother Hugh O'Neil for the performance. They made a couple of tack changes which clearly made a difference tonight. It was an apparent burst hobble which caused Stoneriggs Mystery to break stride however he will no doubt bounce back and hopefully he will return to Corbiewood for another shot at the record. Congratulations again to the O'Neil family on their fantastic win. Ayr Escape is a son of Artiscape o.o the No Nukes mare Unforgotten who was purchased by the O'Neil family at Harrisburg with Ayr Escape in the belly. Congratulations once again. |

8th August 2010 - Crowning Glory
Today was finals day for the 2010 Breeders Crown and the racing didnt disappoint. 2yr old colt Frisco Havago broke the track record for 2yr olds crossing the line comfortably in 2.4.3. The son of Rogue Hall o.o Lifeisjustadream made light work of the opposition for trainer/driver Andrew Cairns winning by 5 lengths ahead of Littlemill Rogue. It turned out to be a good day for the mare Lifeisjustadream as another of her offspring landed the 3yr fillies division in 2.4.8. A daughter of Hasty Hall, Frisco Dancer won by 3.5 lengths and was driven to victory by Andrew Cairns. Both horses are owned by L.Booton. The 2yr old fillies divison was won by Rhyds Topaz. The daughter of Hasty Hall o.o the top producing mare CPR just got up on time to deny Lyons Love Affair victory in a nail biting finish. She crossed the line in 2.7.2 for driver Mick Lord. The 3yr old colts division was left wide open when leading colt Rhyds Fivestar was scratched sick for the Saturday heats. The locally owned Ayr Miles went to post as favourite for todays final and he didnt let his supporters down as he held on to win by a neck ahead of a fast finishing Oakview Smokie in 2.6.6. The son of Daylon Alert was a popular winner for owner Tam Laurie and he was driven to victory by Gregor Menzies. The roof was raised again by the locals as GD's Storm captured the 4yr old+ Mares final in a thrilling race. The daughter of Daylon Alert is owned and trained by Greg Dunbar and confirmed that he almost scratched his top mare from todays final after she finished a bit tender following yesterdays heat. His gamble to race in todays final paid off as his star pupil finished like an express train for driver Willie Greenhorn as they crossed the wire in 2.4.0. The 4yr old+ colts division was won by Rhyds Destiny in 2.1.5 narrowly missing the track record by 1/10th of a second. The 4yr old managed to hold off his elder full brother Rhyds Desire by 1 length with Rocker Laidler in the sulky. Both Rhyds Destiny and Rhyds Desire are sired by Hasty Hall and are o.o the Life Sign mare CPR. The ladies race was won by Rattlesnake Annie with Alexis Laidler in the drive. The daughter of Village Jasper made light work of her opposition winning by 8 lengths in 2.3.2 from a 10yrd trail. The FFA was a highly competitive affair but it was Andrew Cairns who came out on top as he guided Stoneriggs Chris to victory in 2.4.5. The son of Astreos led from start to finish and managed to hold off a late challenge from Major League Star and Rhyds Desire.
The Breeders Crown weekend has been a fantastic spectacle for UK harness racing and the SHRC are delighted that Corbiewood was able to host such a fantastic event. Congratulations to the connections of all the winners. |
